The blanket avatar, btw, is the "Circle of Life" ~ of the Navajo.
Have listened a couple of times to the subject book on audio, and it's VERY good, by Dr. Brian Weiss.
I guess past lifetimes fascinate some people and for others, well, they just can't "get into them" Spirit suggests that working with them is not necessary, for sure, but such work can be amazingly valuable. This work can add such a rich texture to our personal processing work, and I felt that within the listening to this book ~ it seemed life changing in a good way, but I wasn't sure just how. I've never been much "into past lives" ~ it just is what it is but healing power there? I wondered, because my learning is that one of the most important things to remember is that we are the ones ~ IN THIS LIFETIME ~ who are creating our own reality. Past lives are influences, do not create our current reality, are not controlling factors but again, influences. They can be powerful, amazingly powerful, stunningly powerful influences, but they are no more than influences. And, Dr. Weiss' experience does not seem to be in opposition to that, not at all but certainly the powerful influence is there.
But, it is also important to remember that they really are not "past." We label them or categorize them as such for convenience, but they are concurrent lifetimes and thus do not cause in our "now" lifetime; they are influences. Quite apparently, understanding and working with those influences CAN be immeasurably helpful but not necessary.
Here is an analogy to do with this that I like, because it is a puzzlement.
We see stars at night, yes? In the bright lights of the city, it is hard to see the stars and to make out the constellations. Difficult as it may be to see them, those stars are there and the constellations are still there. IF we go out into the country where there are not bright city lights, the night sky comes alive with stars and constellations. It is so easy to see them; they are beautiful. We can gaze into the sky captivated, mesmerized; we can stand there for hours.
Well, in the bright lights of living our daily lives, we can't always see the influences and constellations of influences that play upon our decisions and choices and give us predilections to follow this old pattern rather than see a new one. But if we can get out in the country of exploring certain influential past lifetimes, we can be captivated, and we can see so much more clearly what was there all along.
So working with past lives can be like going out into the country. With a different point of view, now look up in the sky. With a different perspective, now look at yourself. Make sense? Have meaning?
I suppose there could be most influential past lifetimes, but somehow, that doesn't seem to matter a whole lot or any lot to me; it may to some. Dr. Weiss obviously had patients to whom it DID matter, and that, in turn, had effect on him and his own "now" life which changed entirely. Prior he was just a shrink, albeit a heavy-duty one, he was NOT into para-psychology.
Well, it's a real popular and trendy book right now. He has been on Oprah, and that's what I caught, and not the book but the man, the doctor held some fascination for me, so I got his book. It was worthwhile, I thought.
Just a personal opine.

Is it really possible to go to another lifetime? I don't think that can really happen.. What do you think?
