It would seem as if the Honeymoon is over. The press is finally asking tough questions of our Dear Leader!
Our President was asked by Major Garret of FoxNews in today's Press Conference: What took you so long to give a firm response with regard to your previous comments on the Iranian protest. This question was brought about by the strong condemnation of Congress and also by Senators Lindsey Graham and John Mc Cain who both said that President Obama was being weak and timid in his response(s).
He responded, My responses have been consistent. Yet that was not the question. The question was not about his consistently weak responses but rather that his responses were weak to begin with. That weakness includes giving out a written statement rather than to talk to the Iranian's and to the world directly as he did today in condemning the actions of the Iranian government handling of the peaceful protest there.
What I find amazing about Obama is that he constantly says things like, let's not parse our words; yet that is exactly what he does---and yes, consistently.
At today's press conference he said when prompted for a further response, The reason he did not / could not take on a stronger stance is because we do not yet know the outcome. True. But isn't that the reason why the world awaits a first response from the American President; That no one knows the outcome---therefore the world awaits direction from us.
What a cop-out I thought. He plays the middle ground and tends to wait for others to decide an outcome for him, when in matters of grave concern, the world waits on him. This in and of itself is a sign of weakness and insecurity. It shows that he is afraid to be wrong, or rather, as John McCain suggested, we need to be on the right side of history. So in Obama's timidness he awaits for history to play itself out before he will take a stance. Not a good position for a US President to take, now is it!
Talking out of both sides of your mouth might have worked well during the campaign season, but it will not work for the President of the United States. As any middle of the roader knows, sooner or later you are forced to take sides. So take a side Mr. President. Take a side. You are either a man of words or you are a man who stands by his words with actions. In conclusion, let it not be said that we are a fearful people while our adversaries are potent. See, Obama Embraces Islam June 4, 2009
The exact quote is,
"Violent extremists have exploited these tensions in a small but potent minority of Muslims. The attacks of September 11th, 2001 and the continued efforts of these extremists to engage in violence against civilians has led some in my country to view Islam as inevitably hostile not only to America and Western countries, but also to human rights. This has bred more fear and mistrust."
Note: In an unprecidented move, the President has allowed a Huffington Press blogger into what is normally an AP Press Conference. This is an extremely dangerous move for our President and his administration to make because in essence he has just validated and given importance to opinion and commentary over what was once solid factual news.
