Astral Projection

(Question and Answer)

Member Question: "Last night before bed, I began to meditate. I was breathing in good energy and releasing bad energy. I was performing a combination of this and relaxation methods when my body began to feel like it was going numb. At one point I said in my mind I'm ready, release my astral body. Or something similar. (this was after about an hour or so) But I remember feeling very quickly a movement slightly upwards as if my bed raised up 2 inches or so. My heart was racing and I felt like my body was vibrating very fast but it felt good. It was kinda scary to me because I've never felt affects like this before. So I was trying to open my eyes but I couldn't at all as if they were glued shut. I remember saying send me back now. then i could reopen my eyes.

I was in fact trying to astral project. But am kinda confused by all this being the fact I've never experienced it. Can you explain this all to me possibly. Is this normal? Do I have reason to be afraid?"

Cosmeta: As I have often said, we all astral project during sleep yet most are unaware. When we become aware, we are also aware of the slight changes or shifts that take place. What you are describing is part of that process. Don't fear it, but instead try to relax and flow with it.

At the point where we are aware of a numbness, we are beginning to shift our consciousness away from the physical body in an attempt to move our consciousness into the astral. This is a normal part of sleep; but by you trying to have a control astral projection you are also keeping your mind or consciousness connected or glued to the physical body as it were. But at this stage, your consciousness is going to flitter back and forth from the physical to the astral. It's almost as if we are functioning as a pendulum as we attempt to build up the momentum to project. And yes, that does involve changing or altering our vibrational frequencies. So that, what you are feeling is THAT shift as you go from one dimension into another. If you were not trying to remain conscious with it, then it would just happen because this is a normal process of sleep. But because you are curious, you are remaining awake with it.

I would bet my bottom dollar, that if you had stayed conscious with it a little while longer you would have gone into the next phase which would produce feelings of catalepsy or what many are calling sleep paralysis. When we are at this stage we are actually have just barely crossed that dividing line from this world to the next. Oh, how do I say this... Picture if you will a tightrope in which the slightest inch would pull you over to the other side. What you are describing is you being on that tightrope but your weight is slightly more pronounced to the earthly side. Should you shift your weight over, then you would be entering the astral dimension. And at that point you may or may not be consciously aware because you may not have the ability to recall; which is normally what happens to most of us as we call this juncture, sleep.

The feelings of motion stem from your consciousness being aware of moving from one dimension into another.

The racing heartbeat is sensing this shift in vibratory rate as the astral body shifts slightly out of coincidence with the physical body. This is a normal part of the process. What makes this different for you is that you were made aware of it consciously. You were sensing at it were the variation of vibratory frequency between this dimension and the astral. This helps to explain when mystics talk about other dimensions. They are called that because they exist at a different frequency than our own. So at that point, you were consciously aware of the shifting process about to take place. All that you are describing is kind of spirits way of letting you know *where* you are in the process so that you can have free will to cross or not. This is a critical point and requires extreme calm and relaxation of body, mind and spirit. You must be as relaxed in spirit as you are in body, for example and elliminate all fear. In other words don't be scared.

The reason you couldn't open your physical eyes was because at that point, consciousness is not controlling the physical body vehicle but the astral body vehicle. That is why, when you tried to force your physical eyes open you found that you cannot. Proof that you had begun to enter the other dimension is as you say, the mucous build up around the eyes. It is almost as if we are being wrapped in a caccoon or spiders web. It is what the ancients called being wrapped in a mantle. If at that point you had recognized and accepted your entrance into the astral dimension you might have begun to see but from THAT side of the veil. Yet because of your fear, and your command that you be brought back, you were---and missed the best part of all.

If out of fear you pull yourself back, you will be like a great many people who becoming fearful prevent themselves from entering a normal natural sleep. And that is not healthy. If on the other hand you are successful at tripping and then returning, you would be training yourself to become a medium, because this is exactly what psychic mediums do. They enter a trance akin to sleep and then after giving out their reading, return. But a smart medium will work with a partner, or someone to stand guard for them. In other words they might have someone standing or sitting nearby who can guide them back to a wakeful state. But in your case, you are laying in bed because you wish to sleep. (Hence the expression, "before bed"). So that all you did by commanding to return was to stop the sleep process once more. If this sort of thing is done repeatedly it would become very draining because we need our sleep time.

You cannot say, "before bed," because all that you attempted to do for that hour or so, was all the things we normally do when in bed for the night. The laying down... the relaxing, etc. The very fact that the physical body is in a state of rest or immobile will put it to sleep... Normally it takes 5-15 minutes for most of us to fall asleep. So for you to spend 1 hour, you will have to ask yourself if what you sensed was not in part, occurring during sleep itself. In other words, I am saying that it is possible that you were already asleep and that after an hour you woke yourself up.

See if you can figure out how long it takes you to fall asleep under normal circumstances.
