TROUBLESHOOTING

This web site, its CosZ Shack Forum as well as our CosmetaCHAT are best viewed using Microsoft's Internet Explorer version 6 or higher and Netscape7.1 or higher. I have found that the chat page may load better using Internet Explorer6 but Netscape7.1 is a much faster browser, however. It will also work rather well using with FireFox from what some chat users tell me. AOL users can use aol5 or higher. Our chat program will also work on just about any operating system be it Microsoft's Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, NT, etc.; Macintosh Apple; as well as on a Linux. Sorry but I cannot testify to the reliability on older systems because I simply do not own one.

One needs to have Sun Microsystems JavaSoft Runtime, JRE2_1_3_1 higher installed on their operating system and enabled in their browser in order to access our Chat Rooms. Our chat software may also run using the latest version of Microsoft's Virtual Machine or other compatible programs. However, the creator of the chat software recommends downloading and installing the latest version of JavaSoft, JRE2_1_5_0 for reliability, stability and security. It is also noteworthy to know that many browsers come with Java already installed. Therefore, if anyone wants to update their Java it might be prudent to obtain a newer browser release that may already contain a newer release of Java also. If you cannot access CosmetaCHAT, or if the page grays out or is not loading properly, please check the following:


COMMON TYPO ERROR

Typos are among the most frequently made errors for not finding the location of any web page. Please make sure that you have not only spelled the URL Address correctly but that you are mindful of the "Case Sensitive" requirements of some browsers. The URL Address for our CosmetaCHAT is the following:

COMMON LOGIN IN ISSUES:

    * Enter your CosZ Shack Username
    * Enter your CosZ Shack Password correctly
    * Passwords are "Case Sensitive"
    * Disengage your Caps Lock button on your keyboard
    * Use CosZ Shack's Reset Cookie feature at the login screen
    * For forgotten password, use CosZ Shack's Reset feature at
    the login screen
    * Make sure you are not logged in too many places and/or
    on too many machines

JAVA SOFTWARE ISSUES:

    * Have Sun Java Installed on your computer
    * Have Sun Java enabled in your browser
    * Make sure Sun Java is loading properly
    * For Browser related issues, see the below
    * For O/S related issues, see the below

BROWSER ISSUES:

    * Have cookies enabled
    * Have Java enabled in your browser
    * Use your browser's refresh button
    * Avoid multitasking
    * Clear cookies from within your browser's cache and try again
    * Try a different browser

In some browsers there is a CACHE preference for "comparing" pages previously visited and stored in your browser's cache memory. Please make sure that you have set this feature to accept new changes every time a page loads. Or try using your browser's refresh button.

Close down your browser, then reopen it to have the newer settings take effect. If you do not, the web page you are loading might contain outdated information; especially if the webmaster or designer has made updates to their pages since your last visit. In addition, try using your browser's REFRESH button. Some Service Providers like America Online will store links for an indefinite period of time, so if you have any links in your Favorites or if you are using your browser's URL Location drop down, Go To, menu, you might also try deleting out the older link and then try retyping in the address manually, just to make sure you have spelled the url address correctly. Do not use the .htm extension but rather the .html extension, please. Remember too, the url for CosmetaCHAT is also case sensitive. The file name is not cmchat.html or cmCHAT.html but rather, cmChat.html. Make sure you have entered that information correctly. Please see the below:

COMPUTER ISSUES:

    * Check your Firewall settings
    * Clear cookies folder
    * Clear temporary internet files folder
    * Check your computer's memory
    * Reboot your machine to free up memory if necessary
    * Reenter CosmetaCHAT on a fresh reboot
    * Avoid opening other pages while trying to load a java page

WHAT IS DUAL REGISTRATION?

By Registering, you will have free access to both CosZ Shack Message Board Forum as well as CosmetaCHAT because the two programs are integrated. In other words, by registering you will have created a Dual Registration that can be utilized in both areas. Registered Users of CosmetaCHAT you can log onto our CosZ Shack New Age Message Board Forum; and visa versa. If you register to become a CosZ Shack User, you are automatically registered with CosmetaCHAT. Logic dictates: If you should change your CosZ Shack password you will have to enter that new password to enter our CosmetaCHAT area.

Easy 1-2-3 Registration?

Registration is virtually effortless and will take only two minutes of your time. And best of all, it is FREE. Please have the following to become a Registered User: 

   1. Create a Username
   2. Create a Password
   3. Enter A Valid Address

Registering for CosZ Shack is as easy as a 1-2-3. After Registering you will receive an email which will contain your Activation Code. Click on the link provided to activate your account. Login and that's it! You are now Registered and can enter any of our public Forums or Chatrooms!

In some instances, you will have to cut/copy and paste the code into your browser's location box. When you do, please make sure your email window is maximized so that you do not trunicate the code. Please make sure the url code is all on one line and without any spaces.

ACTIVATION FAILURES:

Activation is automatic. If you do not receive your Activation email within a few seconds, something is wrong. There are a number of reasons for this, many of which are beyond my control. Most failures or prolonged delays stem from firewalls, email blocking programs or spam filters. And unfortunately, many Internet Service Providers are now using them, thus preventing their customers from accessing their email in a prompt and efficient manner. Please disengage any of these features ahead of time in order to receive in our email.

    * Your Username
    * Your Email

FORGOTTEN USERNAME OR PASSWORD

At the Login Window
Click on the link that says: Forgot your username or password?

A new window will open.
The Prompt will say:
Reset Password

"Please enter the e-mail address you used during registration. An e-mail that contains your username and a special URL that will reset your password to a random one will be sent to this e-mail address. Then you will be able to login again and change your password if you wish."

Note: If you still need assistance, please email the Administrator (username, CosZ Shack or Cosmeta) by clicking on my 'Author' Member Name on the left side of your topic/post screen and I can login you in via my Control Panel by creating a temporary password for you.
